- The Himalayan range is made up of three parallel ranges often referred to as the Greater Himalayas, the Lesser Himalayas, and the Outer Himalayas.
- The Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) is the section of the Himalayas within India, spanning 11 Indian states and union territories namely Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Assam and West Bengal.
The Peninsular Plateau consists of three divisions as follows:
- Malwa Plateau - Malwa region includes districts of western Madhya Pradesh and parts of south-eastern Rajasthan.
- Chotanagpur Plateau - The Chhota Nagpur Plateau is a plateau in eastern India, which covers much of Jharkhand state as well as adjacent parts of Odisha, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh.
- Deccan Plateau - It extends over eight Indian states and encompasses a wide range of habitats, covering significant parts of Telangana, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
