Answer:

The functions of vascular system in star fish is given below

Explanation:

The important function of water vascular system in starfish is

  • Locomotion,
  • Respiration,
  • Food and waste transportation

Water vascular system is the hydraulic system which was used by echinoderms like star fish and sea urchins.

The star fish has sea water filled ducts which is used for locomotion.

The water vascular system in star fish has many projections which is located on the ventral face of sea arms known as tube feet. Which helps is feeding and locomotion.

Functions:

Locomotion:

  • Cilia is present in the inner wall of the water vascular canals.
  • By using Madreporite the sea water enters in to star fish caused by beating of cilia.
  • Then the sea water reaches to ampullae and tube feet.
  • By the contraction of tube feet, the body of star fish is moved forward.

Food Capture:

  • The prey was captured by the star fish by using the tube feet.

Attachment:

  • By using the tube feet the star fish gets attached to the rocks.
