Whereas newscasts aren't edited because they are usually in live and it takes less time and effort to produce them.
On the other hand, the similarities are that both newsreels and newscasts have informative purposes. They both try to inform society about what is going on around the world, in their countries and cities. Moreover, both need specific equipment and technology to be filmed and produced.
