Absence makes the heart grow fonder :- Being away from someone or something for a period of time makes you appreciate that person or thing more when you see them or it again.

Actions speak louder than words. What you do is more important than what you say.

a. T will run into class late. She will apologize for being late and uses the proverb, “Better late than never.” She will also introduce herself.
b. Then, T will write the saying on the board and ask Ss what the saying means. After, T will ask what a proverb means.
c. After Ss give their definitions of what a proverb is (a short saying stating a general truth or piece of advice), T will write definition of proverb on board.
d. T asks Ss if they know of any other popular English proverbs they’ve heard of before. If no Ss can think of any, T will give 2-3 examples of popular ones. Have Ss guess meanings. Then, explain the meaning.

i. “The early bird catches the worm.”—You should wake up early and start work early if you want to succeed.
ii. “Practice makes perfect.”—You have to practice a skill a lot to become good at it.

2) Proverb Puzzle Pieces (8-10 mins):

a. T will pass out strips of paper to students. T explains that each strip of paper has a part of a proverb on it. Ss need to find the other person who has the other part of their proverb and sit down together.
b. If there are Ss who don’t know who they match with, then T will ask others if they can help those Ss out. (Figure out the proverb together as a class).
c. In pairs, Ss will talk about the meaning of the proverb they have.
