Two roles of testosterone hormone are:

1.    Development of male reproductive system. This includes the testes and prostate glands. The hormone also regulates male sexual behaviour.

2.   Development of ‘secondary sexual’ characteristics. It regulates growth of body hair, fat distribution, increase in bone and muscle mass and deepening of voice.

Explanation:

  • Testosterone is the ‘primary sex hormone’ in males. This hormone is responsible for rendering male characteristics.
  • Females too express very low levels of this hormone. In cases where the level of this hormone is high in females, they have certain male characteristics.
