What are three similarities and three differences between Indian culture and American culture?
The plot comes from a romantic novel. The protagonists will end up together a but only after hundreds of pages of bickering, misunderstandings, infidelities and tantrums. America and India will, in the words of Barack Obama, form “one of the defining partnerships” of the 21st century. -The Economist.
I am happy to discuss the similarities and differences between our cultures.
Here is a very brief history of India, to give you an intro to the Indian culture.
Similarities:
- Quest for knowledge, encouragement of open debate and dissent
- Recognition of right to pursuit of happiness
- Religion integral part of politics and society though both claim to be secular states.
Differences:
- India is primarily spiritual, whereas US is materialistic. The difference in how they pursue happiness is a good example in case
- India has the backing of a culture that is millenniums old, whereas US is a very young society
- US is built on aggression - starting from extermination of native population, to invasions across the world (Vietnam, Iraq, etc); India is very reluctant to invade another country.
