Answer:

(i) True

(ii) False

(iii) True

Explanation:

We know that expression for kinetic and potential energies are 1/2mv^2 and mgh respectively i.e. kinetic energy is directly propotional to square of velocity and potential energy is directly propotional to height of body.

(i) When a body is thrown up its velocity decreases due to gravity and height increases. Thus, kinetic energy gradually changes into potential energy. The statement is true.

(ii) When a body falls from certain height its potential energy gradually decreases because height decreases. Hence statement (ii) is false.

(iii) Assume two bodies one with larger mass (M) and velocity (V) , other with smaller mass (m) and velocity (v). If both have similar momentum then it can be written as MV= mv. Since M>m then V<v.

Because kinetic energy is directly propotional to square of velocity. The Kinetic energy of heavier body will be lesser than that of lighter body. Hence the statement is true.
