In the story "The Necklace" the character of Mathilde Loisel has been portrayed as a materialistic woman. Her dreams and wishes are far ahead of what she had in her life. She always wanted to lead a life of luxuries and high social status. To show an image of a wealthy woman, she borrowed the necklace which she losses.
