I assume that by faith you do not mean religion and my answer below is based on this assumption.
There is faith in science and there is science in faith. Both of these are not mutually excusive instead they co-exist. You cannot excel in one without the other. And niether one is opposite of the other
A scientist or an engineer or for that matter any person of science needs to have faith in science to create something because nothing gets done overnight. Faith in your work is what keeps you motivated and makes you accomplish your set goals. If faith is lost all is meaningless.
Similarly there is science behind how faith works. If your consious mind presumes something to be achievable and within limits (which in abstract term is called faith) then it keeps you active and generates positive ideas itself.
So the question is not that whether both science and faith are important or not but the question is that can science survive in the absence of faith and vice versa?
