Writing a Summer Holiday Diary is an excellent way to practise your descriptive writing skills, and will also ensure that you can remember and look back on your holidays when you are older. It will give you a lot of interest and pleasure to see what you did and how you felt about it.
Dos and Don’ts:
Include at least fourteen entries, although they don’t have to follow immediately on from one day to the next day – there could be gaps.
Pick the days when something interesting happens.
Include your thoughts and feelings, as well as what actually happened.
Try to bring alive the events for the reader. You are trying to recreate it in their mind! Include photos and drawings as these are interesting to look back on.
Write something about every person in your family. Try to show what they are like. Don’t put in an entry for every single day of your holidays – if sometimes you have less to write, or don’t feel like writing, that’s fine.
Don’t write ‘Got up in the morning, had breakfast, had dinner, went to bed’. Include detailed description of your day, and make it alive and interesting!
