Writing an Email Imagine that you are Norman Gortsby. You have always thought of yourself as a clever person at judging people. You still can't believe something like this happened to you; you have been hoodwinked by a young man. You feel that it is shameful that a clever cheat has taken you for a ride. You rue the time you rushed along the path in search of the young gave him a sovereign. Now you are convinced that appearances are deceptive. Write an email (or letter) to one of your old friends about the incident. Use an informal style to convey your consternation and apprehension. You don't know whom to trust.

Subject: Deception by a trickster
Dear ABC,
I hope you have recovered from the bout of viral fever you suffered last week.
I had a disappointing experience the other day. I was sitting on a park bench near Hyde Park. An old man too sat there; after a while he went away and a young man sat there instead. The young man talked to me and told me how he had forgotten the name of the hotel he was staying in. Being new to London, he was now without money or a palce to stay. I wished to see the soap cake he had come out to buy so that I could be sure he was not lying. Finally, I found a cake of soap under the bench and paid him enough to help him. But, when I came back to sit on the bench I found the old man who had sat there earlier searching for his cake of soap! That is when I realised I had been cheated by the young man who was a trickster. He had taken advantage of my helpful nature. I was hoodwinked and in future, will be even more careful before extending a helping hand to anybody. You too be careful of cheats and thugs.
Looking forward to meeting you next month.
Yours lovingly,
Norman
