Once upon a time and a long time ago a cuckoo found a reddish green mango. Attracted to it, it plucked the mango and flew off with it to gift it to his wife. His wife relished the mango as it was neither too sweet nor too ripe. After pecking into the mango it ate it and dropped the kernel on the muddy forest heath below. In came monsoon. The seed germinated and I was born.
I soon sprouted out and grew to be a healthy mango tree. By the next summer I began to bloom and soon I bore nice juicy mangoes. I was no ordinary mango tree. I was a ‘kaccha meetha’ mango tree. Birds flocked every day to enjoy my mangoes. Monkeys chattered along. Soon I grew into a lively guest house for birds and animals. I simply loved those times till some greedy men discovered me. They took all my mangoes and chopped my branches. Now I am just a bare bark bereft any activity. My happy life no longer exists. I live a lonely life.
