A few boys in school uniform stand under the tree outside ABC school (name changed). Cigarette smoke emanates from the crowd and I see that all of them are smoking cigarettes. As I walk towards them, they look uncomfortable and some of them crush their cigarettes under their shoes, while a few others continue unperturbed. I introduce myself and remind them that they are underage and smoking is injurious to health. Some of them just smirk, some look down.

This is a common scene now-a-day.

Smoking among children is on the rise. Statistic available with the Health department are scary. Children do it due to peer pressure, to look macho or ‘just for the kick of it’.

Parents, teachers, shop-keepers, society, everyone, can help stop this dangerous trend. As the saying goes ‘Nip it in the bud’.
