Sher Shah Suri (Pashto: شېر شاه سوري) (1486 – 22 May 1545), born Farīd Khān (Pashto: فرید خان), was the founder of the Suri Empire in India, with its capital in Sasaram in modern-day Bihar. He introduced the currency of rupee. An ethnic Afghan ruler, Sher Shah took control of the Mughal Empire in 1540.
