Ionization energy decreases from top to bottom in a group.

Reason: While going down a group, atomic size increases, hence easy to remove an electron. So less ionization energy

Ionization energy increases from left to right in a period.

Reason: atomic size decreases and nuclear pull increases. So difficult to remove an electron.
