Sarada Devi has been rolling ahead in life. Not only has she secured stellar academic distinctions, she has also scripted success with her lectureship at her alma mater. Sarada, 26 years old now, is confined to a wheelchair and she has fought against 75% disability to succeed in life.

A congenital defect of short stature and a failed surgery on her back bone relegated the young girl, then 11, to a wheelchair. Despite the odds the little girl fought against her fate and secured distinctions in class 10th and 12th. She graduated in English Literature from the Government Womens College, Vazhuthakkad with first class and repeated her success in her post graduation and MPhil from the Institute of English at Thiruvananthapuram.

With the support of her father Vijayakumar who is a businessman and her mother Valsala Devi Thampuratty she soon secured a NET qualification too. It was during the last two months of the last academic year that she got a posting as a guest lecturer at her alma mater to teach students of the graduation and Honours courses. When the new academic year started she returned to college and is now the favourite lecturer to many.

She has been moving around on an automated wheelchair since her PG days. While the college authorities have arranged for a ramp to enable her smooth movement, her parents drop her at the college every morning in their van. Her family is eagerly awaiting the result of their application for a permanent posting at the college under the PH category of which there are four seats.
