Alauddin Khalji was a shrewd administrator because:

1)He confiscated all the rent-free landholdings given to priests and government officials.

2)The officials were forbidden from collecting extra taxes from peasants.

3)The peasants paid taxes in kind directly to the state.

4)He raised the land tax to half the total produce to build a rich treasury.

5)He also put a check on the price of the commodities.

6)To prevent conspiracies, he banned all banquets and assemblies and enlarged the system of espionage or spying.

Thanks.

Hope this helps you.
