The manufacturing sector is considered to be the backbone of economic development of a country because -

1. The manufacturing industries help to modernize agriculture which is the backbone of our economy.  They provide jobs in the secondary and tertiary sectors. This helps to reduce the dependence of people on agricultural income.

2. Industrial development helps to eradicate unemployment and poverty. For example the countries which are able to turn their raw materials into manufactured goods of higher value are more prosperous.

3. The country receives foreign exchange due to the export of manufactured goods and expansion of trade and commerce.
