Step-by-step explanation:
f(x) = x⁴-x³-2x²-3x+1
divide both side by x²
f(x)/x² = x² - x - 2 - 3/x + 1/x²
= x² + 1/x² - 2 - x - 1/x - 4/x
= (x² + 1/x² - 2) - (x + 1/x) - 4/x
= (x - 1/x)² - (x + 1/x) - 4/x ............(1)
∴ x = 1 + √2
1/x = √2 - 1
Therefore, x - 1/x = 2 [Put in (1)]
f(x)/x² = 2² - 2 - 4/x
= 2 - 4/x
f(x) = x² (2 - 4/x)
= 2x² - 4x
[ ∴ x² = 3 + 2√2 ]
f(x) = 2( 3 + 2√2) - 4(1 + √2)
= 2 Ans.
