Answer:

If x + 1 = x – a then a = -1

p(x) = x4 + 3x3 + 3x2 + x + 1

p(-1) = (-1)4 + 3(-1 )3 +3(-1 )2 + (-1) + 1

= 1 + 3(-1) + 3(1) + 1(-1) + 1

= 1- 3 + 3 – 1 + 1

= 5 – 4 P(-1)= 1 Here, r(x) = p(a) = 1 Remainder is not zero ∴ x+1 is not a factor.
