x+1/x=5
x+1=5x
5x-x=1
4x=1
x=1/4
now substituting this value in x-1/x we have

(1/4-1)/1/4
we get -3
so -3 is the ans

Dhinu: got it ?
hayah1: see I got 1/4 =x..if we put in in first part of equation..we get rhs=lhs
Dhinu: no, try it again ... lhs = 17/4 and lhs = 5
Dhinu: if we put x= 1/4 then...
Dhinu: it's x + 1/x not (x+1)/x ... i think u r getting confused in it
hayah1: I tried but same
Dhinu: it's x + 1/x =5 so, if u wanna find the value of x then first multiply it by x it becomes (x^2 +1)/x =5 . now , cross multiply it ... then it becomes x^2 + 1 = 5x .... which is a quadratic equation
hayah1: oh
Dhinu: now u got tha point ???
Dhinu: now u got that point ???
