x +  \frac{1}{x}  = 5 \\  {x}^{2}  - 5x + 1 = 0 \\ x =  \frac{ - b +  -  \sqrt{ {b}^{2}  - 4c}  }{2a}

x²+1 = 5

x

x²+1=5x

x²-5x+1=0

Discriminant d

=√b²-4ac

=√25-2(1)(1)

=√25-2

=√23

Using quadratic formula,

x= -b +- d

2a

= -(-5) +- √23

2(1)

= 5 + √23. or 5 - √23
