X=√2+1/√2-1

Now rationalisation

= (√2+1)^2/(√2)^2-(^1)

=2+1+2√2/1

=3+2√2

ACCORDING TO QUESTION

x-y=4√2

3+2√2-y=4√2

y=3-2√2

Now put the value of x and y in the (x^2+y^2)

{(3+2√2)^2+(3-2√2)^2}

9+8+9+8+2(9-8)

34+2

=36
