x^{2} -\frac{1}{x^{2} } =5\\\\=> x^{2} + \frac{1}{x^{2} } - 2 = 5\\\\=> x^{2} + \frac{1}{x^{2} } = 3\\\\=> \frac{x^{4}+ 1 }{x^{2} } = 3\\\\=> x^{4} + 1 = 3x^{2} \\\\=> x^{4} - 3x^{2} +1 = 0

In the given equation the power of x is 4

So, it is not a quadradic equation.
