 {x}^{2}  + 20x - 240 = 0 \\  \\  a = 1 \\  \\ b = 20 \\  \\ c =  - 240 \\  \\  \\  \\ x =  \frac{ - b± \sqrt{ {b}^{2}  - 4ac} }{2a}  \\  \\  =  \frac{ - 20± \sqrt{ {( - 20)}^{2}   + 4 \times 1 \times 240}  }{2 \times 1} \\  \\  =   \frac{ - 20± \sqrt{400 + 1060} }{2}  \\  \\  =  \frac{ - 20± \sqrt{1460} }{2}  \\  \\  =  \frac{ - 20±2 \sqrt{365} }{2}



Now,

x =  \frac{ - 20 + 2 \sqrt{365} }{2}  \\  \\  =  \frac{2( - 10 +  \sqrt{365}) }{2}  \\  \\  =  - 10 +  \sqrt{365}


Again,

x =  \frac{ - 20 - 2 \sqrt{365} }{2}  \\  \\  =  \frac{2( - 10 -  \sqrt{365} )}{2}  \\  \\  =  - 10 -  \sqrt{365}
