(i) x2 + y2/x2 – y2 = 17/8

Applying componendo and dividendo rule,

x2 + y2 + x2 – y2/x2 + y2 – x2 + y2 = 17 + 8/17 – 8

2x2/2y2 = 25/9

x2/y2 = 25/9

x/y = 5/3

x : y = 5 : 3
