-x^2-x^2 will obviously be -2x^2...I think that you are thinking why is it not -x^4...am I right...if yes then here is the solution to your problem

if it was -x^2*-x^2 then it would be -x^4(a^m*a^m=a^m*n)...so by this law of exponent we can say the same... but here the (-) sign so it would not be -x^4...well I know it's in a very complicated way but I have tried my best buddy...
