x² - x - 2 = 0

x² - 2x + x - 2 = 0

x(x – 2) + 1(x - 2)

(x + 1) (x - 2)

x = -1 x = 2

Given

x^2 - x -2 =0

So, by splitting the middle term

x^2 +x -2x -2=0

x (x+1) + -2(x+1) = 0

(x+1) ( x-2) =0

x+1 =0 => x= -1

x -2 =0 => x = 2

HOPE IT IS HELPFUL
