Answer:

Required value of y is 16 / 3 and y is 4 / 3.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

        x + 2y = 12

= >    x = 12 - 2y           ...( i )

Also, 2x + y = 8

Substituting the value of x from ( i )

= > 2( 12 - 2y ) + y = 8

= > 24 - 4y + y = 8

= > 24 - 3y = 8

= > 24 - 8 = 3y

= > 16 = 3y

= > 16 / 3 = y

Substituting the value of y in ( i )

= > x = 12 - 2y

= > x = 12 - 2( 16 / 3 )

= > x = ( 36 - 32 ) / 3

= > x = 4 / 3

Hence the required value of y is 16 / 3 and y is 4 / 3.
