Answer:

=> x + (20/x) - 12 = 0

=> (x^2 + 20 - 12x )/x = 0

=> x^2 - 12x + 20 = 0

=> x^2 - ( 10 + 2 )x + 20 = 0

=> x^2 - 10x - 2x + 20 = 0

=> x( x - 10 ) - 2( x - 10 ) = 0

=> ( x - 10 )( x - 2 ) = 0

=> (x-10)=0 or (x-2) = 0

=> x=10 or x = 2

Value of x is either 10 or 2.

Factorisation:

  • If the given algebraic expression can be expressed as a product of two or more expressions then those expressions are called factors of the given expression.

  • Resolving an expression into its factors is called factorisation.

  • The method we use to factorise an expression depends on the type of that expression.
