X(2x-y) -y^2
=>
2x^2 -xy -y^2
=>
2x^2 -2xy +xy -y^2
=>
2x (x-y) +y (x-y)
=>
(2x+y) (x-y) Ans

The answer is given below :

Now,

x(2x - y) - y²

= 2x² - xy - y²

= 2x² - (2 - 1)xy - y²

= 2x² - 2xy + xy - y²

= 2x(x - y) + y(x - y)

= (x - y)(2x + y),

which is the required factorization.

THINKING SKILL :

We can try to solve it by thinking differently.

Now,

x(2x - y) - y²

= 2x² - xy - y²

= (1 + 1)x² - xy - y²

= x² + x² - xy - y²

= x² - y² + x² - xy

= (x + y)(x - y) + x(x - y)

= (x - y)(x + y + x)

= (x - y)(2x + y),

which is the required factorization.
