Step-by-step explanation:

x+2y=4. (1) equ.

3x+y=7. (2)equ.

multiply 3 by 1 equip.

3(x+2y=4)

3x+6y=12. (3) equ.

subtract 3equ. and 2 equ.

3x+6y=12

- 3x-y =-7

_________

5y=5

y=1

put y=1 in 1 equ.

x+2y=4

x+2(1)=4

x+2=4

x=4-2

x=2

hence the value of x=2 and y=1
