Answer:

x=1/6 , y = -55/12

Step-by-step explanation:

x+2y+9=0 ----------1

8x+4y+17=0

==multiply 1 by 2

2x+4y+18=0 ------------2

8x+4y+17=0 ----------3

subtract 2 and 3

we get

-6x+1=0

-6x=-1

6x=1

x=1/6 -----------4

substituting x in 1

1/6 + 2y+9=0

1/6 +2y =-9

(1+12y)/6 = -9

1+12y= -54

12y = -54-1

12y =-55

y = -55/12

x+ 2y +9=0

8x+4y+17=0

now,

x+2y=-9 ------1

and ,

8x+4y =-17 -------2

multiply the eqń ----1 by 2

we get,

2x+4y =-18 ------3

now, eqń 3 minus eqñ2

we get ,

6x =1

x = 1/6

putting the value of x =1/6 in eqń 3

we get,

2×1/6+4y=-18

1/3+4y=-18

-4y =1/3+18/1

take LCM.

-4y =55/3

y = -55/12.
