  \mapsto \frac{x}{ 3 }  - 6 = 2

 \mapsto 2  + 6 =  \frac{x}{3}

 \mapsto8 =  \frac{x}{3}

 \mapsto8 \times 3 = x

 \mapsto x = 8  \times 3 = 24

 \mapsto \: x = 24
