Answer:

x - 3y = 1

x - y = 7 (multiply by 3)

Then,

x - 3y = 1

3x -3y = 21

Now Subtracting both the equations,

- 3y will get cancelled from both the equations

3x - x = 21 - 1

2x = 20

x = 10

put x = 10 in equation 2,

x - y = 7

10 - y = 7

-y = 7 - 10

-y = -3

y = 3

Therefore x = 10 and y = 3
