x + 3y = 5 -------------------(1)

7x - 8y = 6 -------------------(2)

In Equation 1

x + 3y = 5

x = 5 - 3y -------------------(R1)

Putting R1 in equation 2

7x - 8y = 6

7(5 - 3y) - 8y = 6

35 - 21y - 8y = 6

35 - 29y = 6

35 - 6 = 29y

29 = 29y

y = 29/29

y = 1

Now putting value of "y" in R1

x = 5 - 3y

x = 5 - 3(1)

x = 5 - 3

x = 2

ANSWER :- x = 2 and y = 1
