$Identity - {a}^{2} - {b}^{2} = (a + b) (a - b) \\ \\ Here \: a = x + 4 , b = x + 8 \\ \\ Putting \: values \\ \\ ((x + 4 )+( x + 8))× ((x + 4) - (x + 8))\\ \\ (2x + 12)(x+ 4 - x - 8) \\ \\ (2x + 12 )(-4) \\ \\ -8x - 48 \\ \\ -8x = +48 \\ \\ x =- 6$
