Answer:

x = -2 / 5 , y = 8 / 5

Step-by-step explanation:

Given---> x + 4y = 6

7x + 3y = 2

To find ---> Value of x and y by substitution method

Solution---> x + 4y = 6 ......................(1)

7x + 3y = 2 .......................(2)

Now, we solve these equation by substitution method in this method we find value of one variable in terms of other and put in other equation and solve it for one variable and then find value of other variable.

Now from equation (1)

x + 4y = 6

=> x = 6 - 4y

Putting x = 6 - 4y in equation (2), we get

7x + 3y = 2

=> 7 ( 6 - 4y ) + 3 y = 2

=> 42 - 28 y + 3y = 2

=> - 25 y = 2 - 42

=> - 25y = - 40

=> y = 40 / 25

=> y = 8 / 5

Putting y = 8 / 5 in

x = 6 - 4y

=> x = 6 - 4 ( 8 / 5 )

=> x = ( 30 - 32 ) / 5

=> x = - 2 / 5

So , x = - 2 / 5 , y = 8 / 5
