To find : value of x

Given equation : \frac{x-5}{7}- 8 = \frac{2x + 4 }{5}

Solution :

  • To find the value of x from the given equation we first solve LHS by cross multiplying terms.

                         \frac{x-5-56}{7} = \frac{2x + 4}{5}

                             \frac{x- 61}{7} = \frac{2x + 4}{5}

  • Cross multiplying terms of LHS and RHS ,

                       5 ( x-61 ) = 7 ( 2x + 4)

                        5x - 305 = 14x + 28

  • solving like terms :  -305 - 28 = 14x -5x

                                                  -333 = 9x

                                                        x = - 37

Hence , value of x will be -37.
