ANSWER:

Given:

  • x - 5, x - 3 and 2x - 2 are the 3 consecutive terms of an arithmetic sequence

To Find:

  • Value of x

Solution:

We are given that, x - 5, x - 3 and 2x - 2 are the 3 consecutive terms of an arithmetic sequence.

We know that, the common difference between 2 consecutive terms of an AP is constant.

So,

⇒ (x - 3) - (x - 5) = (2x - 2) - (x - 3)

⇒ x - 3 - x + 5 = 2x - 2 - x + 3

⇒ 2 = x + 1

Subtracting 1 on both sides,

⇒ x + 1 - 1 = 2 - 1

⇒ x = 1

Therefore, the value of x is 1.
