Step-by-step explanation:

 \frac{x}{6}  -  \frac{y}{3}  = 4 \\  \frac{x - 2y}{6}  = 4 \\ x - 2y = 24 \\ x = 24 + 2y......(i)

 \frac{x}{12}  -  \frac{2y}{3}  = 4  \\  \frac{x - (4 \times 2y)}{12}  = 4\\ x - 8y = 48......(ii)

Using (i) in (ii),

24 + 2y - 8y = 48 \\ 24 - 6y = 48 \\  - 6y = 48 - 24 \\ y =  -  \frac{24}{6}  \\ y =  - 4

Using y = -4 in (i)

x = 24 + (2 \times  - 4) \\ x = 24 - 8 \\ x = 16
