x-6y=1 (eq-1)

X+2y=-2(eq-2)

subtracting eq-2 from eq-1

we get,

-8y=3

y=-8÷3

and

similarly by eliminating y this time we get value of X =-5÷4

x - 6y = 1 \\ x + 2y =  - 2 \\  - 8y = 3 \\ y = 3 \div 8

show show the value of y = 3/-8
