The shinny brown colored element ‘X’ is copper. When it is heated in air, it becomes black due to the deposit of copper oxide.

2Cu+O2=2CuO

x is Copper (Cu) reason behibd it is a brown coloured shining element and it comes after Nicle in periodic table as it has 29 as its Atomic number.

The black coloured compund i.e. formed while heating Copper in air Copper Oxide beacause Copper + Oxygen gives Copper Oxide which is Black in colour.

Hope it helps!!
