xy = x/y
===> xy^2 = x
===> y^2 = 1 ... (division by x is valid, since x is non-zero)
===> y = -1 or 1

If y = 1, then from xy = x + y, we have:

y = y + 1
0 = 1

which is a contradiction, so y cannot equal 1. Thus y = -1, and so:

xy = x + y
===> -x = x - 1
===> 2x = 1
===> x = 1/2

So, the only solution is x = 1/2, y = -1 (which is indeed a solution), and so:

x - y = 1/2 - -1 = 3/2

hope this is helpful to you

Answer:

3/2 or 1.5

as x=0.5 and y=-1.0;

and x-(-y)=0.5+1=1.5;
