GIVEN

  • X and Y are sharing profits in the ratio of 4 : 3

  • Z Joins

  • The new ratio among X, Y and Z is 7 : 4 : 3

TO DETERMINE

The Sacrificing Ratio

CALCULATION

Here X and Y are sharing profits in the ratio of 4 : 3

So

\displaystyle \sf{X \: 's  \: \:old  \:  Share \:  \:  =  \frac{4}{4 + 3}  =  \frac{4}{7} }

\displaystyle \sf{Y \: 's \:  \: old \:  Share \:  \:  =  \frac{3}{4 + 3}  =  \frac{3}{7} }

Now Z Joins

The new ratio among X, Y and Z is 7 : 4 : 3

Here X & Y sacrifices

\displaystyle \sf{X \: 's  \: \:new  \:  Share \:  \:  =  \frac{7}{7 + 4 + 3}  =  \frac{7}{14} }

\displaystyle \sf{Y \: 's \:  \: new \:  Share \:  \:  =  \frac{4}{7 + 4 + 3}  =  \frac{4}{14} }

Now Sacrificing Ratio

= Old Share - New Share

So

\displaystyle \sf{Sacrifice \:  \: of \:  \:  X\: =  \frac{4}{7}   - \frac{7}{14}   =  \frac{1}{14} }

\displaystyle \sf{Sacrifice \:  \: of \:  \:  Y\: =  \frac{3}{7}   - \frac{4}{14}   =  \frac{2}{14} }

Hence The Sacrificing Ratio of X & Y

\displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{1}{14}   :  \frac{2}{14}    }

\displaystyle \sf{ = 1 : 2 \:   }
