Given :  x and y vary inversely as each other, where x=12 y=6

To Find :   which one is not possible corresponding

x = 3  , y = 24

x = 6  , y =  12

x = 6  , y = 3

x = 4  , y = 18

Solution:

x and y vary inversely

=> x ∝  1/y

=> xy  = k

x= 12 , y = 6

=> 12 * 6 = k

=> 72 = k

=> xy = 72

x = 3  , y = 24  => xy = 3 (24) = 72

x = 6  , y =  12 => xy = 6(12) = 72

x = 6  , y = 3   => xy = 6(3) = 18 ≠ 72

x = 4  , y = 18  => xy = 4(18) = 72

Hence x = 6  , y = 3 is not possible
