x = Na2SO4

y = BaSO4

reaction :

Na2SO4 + BaCl2 => BaSO4 + 2 NaCl

it is a double displacement reaction.....

Answer: X is sodium sulphate and Y is Barium sulphate.

Explanation:

  • A chemical reaction occurring in an aqueous solution when two ionic bonds combine, producing  an insoluble salt is known as precipitation reaction.
  • Precipitation reactions are often double displacement reactions that result in the formation of the precipitate, a solid form of residue.
  • The reaction between sodium sulphate and Barium chloride forms Barium sulphate and sodium chloride as:

      Na_{2} SO_{4} (aq) + BaCl_{2} (aq)BaSO_{4} (s) + NaCl (aq)

  • This is the precipitation reaction in which white colored precipitates of Barium sulphate are formed.

X is sodium sulphate and Y is Barium sulphate.
