days work per day

x 12 1/12

y 15 1/15

z 20 1/20

work done by x + (x+y) + (x+y+z)

= 1/12 +(1/12 +1/15) + (1/12 + 1/15 +1/20)

= 26/60

there are 2 26s in 60

=> 2×3 = 6 days taken

remaining work = 1 -(2× 26/60) = 2/15

x does work next day

remaining = 2/15 - 1/12 = 1/20

x+y =1/12 + 1/15 = 3/20

no of days x+y takes to finish 1/20 part of work is

1/20 ÷ 3/20 =1 ÷3 =1/3 days

total no. of days = 2×3 =6 + 1+⅓ = 7⅓ days

to finish the work
