It takes 24 minutes for both to arrive at their starting point together

Solution:

Given that,

X completes one round of a running track in 8 minutes

Y completes it in 6 minutes

They start at the same time and maintain their speed

To find:  time taken for both to arrive at their starting point together

Which means, we have to find the LCM of 8 and 6

Find LCM of 8 and 6

List all prime factors for each number.

Prime Factorization of 6 is:  2 x 3

Prime Factorization of 8 is:  2 x 2 x 2

For each prime factor, find where it occurs most often as a factor and write it that many times in a new list.

2, 2, 2, 3

Multiply these factors together to find the LCM.

LCM = 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 = 24

Thus, it takes 24 minutes for both to arrive at their starting point together
