Question:

x³ - 2x² - x + 2

Solve by factorization method and find it's zeros.

Solution:

x³ - 2x² - x + 2

_____________ [ GIVEN ]

• We have to find it's zeros.

______________________________

We know that ax² + bx + c = 0

→ x³ - 2x² - x + 2 = 0

Take x² common from (x³ - 2x²) and (-1) from (- x + 2)

→ x²(x - 2) -1(x - 2) = 0

→ (x² - 1) (x - 2) (x - 2) = 0

→ (x - 1) (x + 1) (x - 2) = 0

If we have to solve it by factorization then answer is \underline{\bold{(x \:- \:1) \:(x \:+ \:1) \:(x \:- \:2)}}

____________ [ ANSWER ]

*But if we have to find zeros then further processor are as follows:

Now.. put them equal to 0. One by one

» x² - 1 = 0

→ x² = 1

→ x = ±1

» x - 2 = 0

→ x = + 2

» x - 2 = 0

→ x = +2

______________________________

±1, +2, +2 are the zeros of x³ - 2x² - x + 2.
